ELIZABETHAN SEA DOGS

a nautical fiction / sea adventure series by Kevin J. Glynn

About the Series

"Elizabethan Sea Dogs" is an historical fiction/action & adventure series of stand-alone novels set in the 16th century during the war between England and Spain around the time of the Spanish Armada.

Queen Elizabeth I stands alone against the might of King Philip II of Spain who wants to invade England and return her to the Catholic fold. A veteran Spanish army sits across the English Channel waiting to be ferried across to England by a Spanish Armada so it can crush the upstart queen. To forestall this, the Queen conducts delicate diplomacy while her spymasters weave plots against Spanish interests. England's daring "sea dog" mariners are chomping at the bit to bring the war to Spain and plunder her far-flung empire. Fearing the wrath of Spain, the Queen will tolerate her sea dog's piratical antics only if she can maintain plausible deniability and secretly get a one-third cut of the loot.

The first book of the series, "Voyage of Reprisal," follows an Elizabethan galleon that sets out to intercept the annual Spanish treasure fleet. The crew must endure harsh elements, internal discord, and the guns of patrolling Spanish warships. If they prevail, rewards and retribution await in the wilds of the New World.

The second book of the series, "The English Corsair," follows the exploits of a young shipmaster who returned from that voyage only to be imprisoned in the Tower of London as a political scapegoat to appease the King of Spain. Upon his release, the shipmaster is sent on a secret mission to Spain where he learns the fate of missing friends and lost treasure. Before he can exploit the information, however, he must partner with ruthless French pirates and fight a war with Spain,

The third book of the series (to be published) is tentatively entitled "Armada: A Novel." It will cover the attack of the Spanish Armada against England and the responses of Elizabeth's sea dogs and Dutch allies.

The author was motivated to write this series of sea stories after reading historical nonfiction books about the age of exploration, such as Samuel Eliot Morison's "The Great Explorers," the Hakluyt Society book series and primary research documents from both English and Spanish sources. Besides the historicity and authenticity of the books which provide a full immersion into the past, the author carefully crafted plots designed to keep the reader engaged. Readers have attested they could not put the books down, due to the character development, conflict and plot lines containing surprising twists and turns.
